NFL Gambling - Chargers at Rams

NFL gambling concerns are again growing for the San Diego Chargers and coach Norv Turner as once again they are off to a slow start to the football betting season.

NFL gambling handicappers saw the St. Louis Rams come back down to earth last week in a blowout loss to Detroit which proved that they are still a questionable football betting commodity.

The Rams will host the Chargers Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 1:05 PM Eastern and a telecast on CBS.  Sports-Gambling opened with San Diego as a 9 point favorite and with an over/under of 45.

The San Diego Chargers have a record of 2-3 both straight up and with the NFL odds after last week’s embarrassing 35-27 loss at the Oakland Raiders.  The Chargers have gone over the total in 4 out of 5 games this year.  What is bizarre about the Chargers is that they rank 1st overall in both total offense and defense.

Special teams breakdowns were key factors in all 3 losses and at Oakland the Chargers suffered from two blocked punts.  As has been the case since Turner took over as coach in 2007, San Diego has stumbled out of the gate and looked sluggish and now will have to spend the rest of the foreseeable part of their schedule digging out.

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a 44-6 loss at Detroit last week as their record is now 2-3 straight up and 3-2 with the NFL lines.  The Rams have shown improvement over last year as they rank 20th in overall offense and 11th for points allowed.

Rookie quarterback Sam Bradford has completed 57% of his passes for just 5.7 yards per attempt and a 6/8 touchdown/interception ratio for a QB rating of 66.5.  Steven Jackson has rushed for 398 yards and a 4.1 yards per carry average.

The Rams were brought back down to earth last week in their reality check game.  While St. Louis is improving they will be facing a talented and tough San Diego team that needs a win and has the muscle to get it.  The Chargers defense is a tough one for a rookie QB to work against.

The Chargers have paid out in 6 consecutive games when coming off a NFL gambling loss.  St. Louis is just 5-16 against the spread after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
