UFC 118 Betting - Lightweight Championship August 28

UFC 118 betting excitement is growing rapidly in eager anticipation for the Lightweight Championship bout between Frankie Edgar and BJ Penn with the UFC 118 odds.

UFC 118 betting handicappers will recall that Edgar defeated Penn for the title last April 10 in a unanimous decision which set up this rematch with the UFC 118 odds.

Frankie “The Answer” Edgar has a career record of 12 wins and 1 loss.  He is known for his strengths in wrestling and cardio.  Edgar has 2 wins by knockout, 3 by submission, and 7 by decision.  His only loss was by unanimous decision to Gray Maynard in April of 2008.

BJ “The Prodigy” Penn has a career record of 15-6-1 and has the reputation for being an excellent stand up fighter with good submission skills.  Penn won the Lightweight championship by submission over Joe Stevenson in January of 2008 and successfully defended the title on 3 occasions before losing to Edgar at Abu Dhabi.

He also fought for the Welterweight title in January of 2009 and lost to Georges St-Pierre.  He has been fighting in UFC since 2001.

Penn was a prohibitive favorite with the UFC betting line against Edgar in their last bout but “The Answer” came with quick strikes and a steady pace to rip the title away.

Beyond the Penn vs. Edgar matchup in Boston there is another Lightweight bout on the card that could have future championship implications as Kenny Florian will take on Gray Maynard with the winner likely to have the inside track towards a shot at the title belt in a future event.

Kenny “KenFlo” Florian has a record of 15-4 while Gray “The Bully” Maynard has a career mark of 10-0.

Florian has twice fought for the Lightweight title and lost both times as he was defeated by Sean Sherk in 2006 and by BJ Penn in 2009.  He enters UFC 118 betting action with two consecutive wins and last fought on March 31 when he defeated Takanori Gomi by submission choke.

Florian will have plenty of fan support as he fights out of Brookline, Mass.  Florian is best known for his jiu-jitsu and dangerous elbows.

Maynard is coming off a win over Nate Diaz on January 11 by decision.  Maynard fights out of Las Vegas and began his UFC career in September of 2007.  His strengths are wrestling, conditioning, and striking.
