Sportsbook bettors saw the Chargers rise from the dead to win the pathetic AFC west with an online sportsbook of 8-8 straight up and 7-8-1 against the spread. Head coach Norv Turner is the leading cause for sportsbook concern about this team that developed into an online sportsbook powerhouse under Turner’s predecessor Marty Schottenheimer.
Last sportsbook season the Chargers were 4-8 straight up heading into the final month of play and written off for dead. To Turner’s credit they rallied with 4 consecutive wins to steal the division title from the Denver Broncos.
They even won their first round sportsbook playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts before losing at eventual Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh in the 2nd round. San Diego’s inconsistently, however, has been a long time cause for sportsbook concern and has turned off the majority of gamblers.
And that inconsistency rests solely with Turner, who has had a VERY checkered sportsbook record as a head coach previously at Washington and Oakland. Turner is known as an excellent offensive coordinator but not nearly as effective when put in charge as the head man.
Turner is able to focus his strength as an offensive coach with quarterback Philip Rivers, who impressed everyone in sportsbook gambling with his performance last year. Philips threw for 4009 yards, 34 touchdowns, and a quarterback rating of 105.5. He threw only 11 interceptions last sportsbook season.
It was far and away his best season as a pro and he has developed into one of the elite quarterbacks in pro football. Rivers top target was Vincent Jackson, who had 1098 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Antonio Gates added 60 catches for 704 yards and 8 touchdowns. LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 1110 yards and 11 touchdowns but enters his 9th season of play with a lot of tread wear. Expect Darren Sproles to continue to see more action.
Sproles is a game breaker and also a highly effective return man. Offense was not the problem in San Diego. It was their 25th ranked defense that nearly cost them a playoff spot.
