Sportsbook Look at the Denver Broncos

Sportsbook handicappers have a lot of trepidation about the Denver Broncos for the upcoming 2009 online sportsbook NFL season.

Sportsbook bettors were stunned that long time coach Mike Shanahan was fired after failing to make the playoffs last online sportsbook season and just as stunned at his replacement.  Josh McDaniels arrives as the new Denver coach for the upcoming sportsbook NFL campaign.

In what is becoming a “flavor of the month” scenario he is one of many ex-New England Patriot coaches and staff that have been hired by other teams throughout the league hoping that the Patriots long time online sportsbook success will rub off on them.  McDaniels spent 8 sportsbook seasons with the Patriots and helped them win 3 Super Bowls.

From 2006-2008 he was New England’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach.  He is only 33 years old and is a significant change from Shanahan, who was the virtual dictator of the Broncos for the past decade plus of sportsbook action.

McDaniels got off to an immediate rough start to his sportsbook coaching career as he and quarterback Jay Cutler did not get along at all.

While McDaniels supposedly reached out to Cutler the strong willed quarterback was apparently not impressed as he immediately asked for a trade and will spend this upcoming sportsbook season with the Chicago Bears.  Say what you want about Cutler but he threw for 4526 yards and 25 touchdowns last year.

The Broncos were ranked 2nd in total offense last sportsbook season as it was their 29th ranked defense that did them in and cost them a spot in the playoffs.  The fact that McDaniels couldn’t make it work with Cutler is an ominous sign for the upcoming sportsbook campaign.

What’s even more disturbing for Denver is that Cutler is being replaced on the depth chart by Kyle Orton, who will be backed up by Chris Simms.  That is certainly NOT an upgrade.

While Orton is coming off his best season in 2008 with a 79.6 quarterback rating, he in no way can compare to Cutler.  Simms has not been effective in his 7 year career.  It all adds up to a lot of questions and a potential disaster of a season in Denver.
