Sportsbook fans have seen an overload of western conference teams that rank as the top offshore sportsbook contenders to take the NBA crown and defense is a major reason as to why.
The Denver Nuggets did not get a lot of sportsbook love prior to the post season despite being the two-seed in the west, but that has been changing as offshore sportsbook bettors have been impressed with the dominance of Denver in the first two rounds of the post season.
Denver featured the 3rd ranked defense in the NBA and the best stop-unit in the western conference. That defense has combined with the Nuggets top ranked offense to make them the most profitable team at a sportsbook so far in the NBA post season.
The Houston Rockets defense was well regarded by all sportsbook handicappers before the post season and Houston has done nothing to change that perception as they ranked 7th overall in the NBA for defense and 2nd best in the west.
Defense was the sportsbook difference for Houston in the opening round of the post season as they shut down the high octane Portland Trailblazers. Houston’s ultimate NBA Playoff success against the sportsbook board will rest on that defense.
Speaking of defense, or lack there of, all sportsbook bettors will give the Los Angeles Lakers a long look but it will not be because of defense. The Lakers ranked only 11th best in the NBA post season for defense and their unit has been considered “soft” by sportsbook wise guys all season.
Unless the Lakers can find their “D” they will likely get upset before having a chance to hoist the Lawrence O’Brien Trophy. Defense has always been a weakness of the Dallas Mavericks and this year is certainly no different.
An even “softer” team than the Lakers, Dallas ranked just 12th overall in the NBA post season for defense and that is what will cause their likely ouster in the second round.
