Sportsbook Big East Hoop Betting at Sports Gambling

Sportsbook action on Big East basketball is one of the most intense experiences that you can have at online sportsbooks.

Sportsbook bettors have long considered Big East basketball to be one of the most challenging and exciting opportunities available at online sportsbooks.  So far in 2008-09 the Pitt Panthers have impressed sportsbook college basketball bettors with a great start of 12-0 straight up and 5-2 against the spread.

The fact that Pitt has maintained good sportsbook betting value despite their excellent public reputation may be a portent of things to come this winter.  Connecticut is a team that has long carried a lot of sportsbook respect in Big East basketball.

The Huskies began this season 11-0 straight up but their sportsbook value did not hold as they were only 4-3 against the spread.  This has been an ongoing issue for UConn basketball as they are one of the most “public” teams at online sportsbooks.  Last year UConn was 24-9 straight up but just 13-15-1 against the sportsbook odds.

Another incredibly “public” team with the Big East sportsbook betting community is Georgetown.  Last year the Hoyas went 28-6 straight up but were just 14-17 against the sportsbook line.  Georgetown, like the Lakers in pro basketball, is simply too popular with the public to ever hold any real value.

Yet another “public” sportsbook team in Big East basketball betting is the Marquette Golden Eagles.  Coach Tom Crean departed after last season for Indiana but left what is considered to be a full cupboard.  Marquette began 2008-09 with a record of 10-2 straight up but was just 3-4-1 against the spread.

Notre Dame is another example of bad value at online sportsbooks with a strong Big East team.  The Fighting Irish last year were 25-8 straight up but just 15-15 against the spread as more of the public began to take them seriously in hoops.  In 2008-09 Notre Dame began the season 9-2 straight up but just 3-3 against the sportsbook board.

Lightly regarded teams in the Big East can sometimes bring good value.  Rutgers began 2008-09 with a record of 9-3 straight up and 4-2 against the spread as they operated well under the public’s radar screen.
