Sportsbook AFC Playoff Action

Sportsbook handicappers know that despite the New England Patriots epic failure in the Super Bowl last season the AFC still has the best teams on the board.

Sportsbook bettors on the AFC playoffs should have a lot of great AFC playoff opportunities for value at online sportsbooks this January.  The Tennessee Titans have emerged as the AFC sportsbook favorite and it’s easy to understand why that is.

Tennessee dominated not just on the field but, just as importantly to gamblers, at the sportsbook as well as the most profitable team on the board for 2008.

Tennessee had many impressive sportsbook wins in 2008 but none more impressive than their 31-14 blowout win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 21 as 1 point home dogs to clinch home field for the post season.

Tennessee’s strength is their 5th ranked defense which was more impressive than Pittsburgh’s highly touted crew in that head to head showdown.  The key sportsbook question regarding Tennessee, however, is if quarterback Kerry Collins can actually take a team all of the way.

There are many doubters at online sportsbooks regarding that issue.  The Pittsburgh Steelers were long considered to be the best team in the AFC by sportsbook bettors, even as Tennessee was making their run.  The Steelers loss at Tennessee does not deter their sportsbook respect or popularity.

Pittsburgh has the top ranked defense in the NFL despite that poor showing at Tennessee.  Remarkably enough, the Steelers biggest sportsbook problem has been their offense and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has been inconsistent this season with a poor 17/14 TD/INT ratio and 80.9 rating.

Those sportsbook bettors questioning Collins’ abilities would do well to look over Big Ben’s bad season.  The Indianapolis Colts have long carried respect at online sportsbooks, although not always a lot of value.

This season has been particularly satisfying for head coach Tony Dungy as the Colts rallied from a 3-4 straight up start to rip off 8 consecutive wins en route to their playoff berth.  The Colts have operated in red ink, however, in their sportsbook board performance dating back to their 2006 world championship season.
