Sports gambling expectations are sky high yet again for England, who is a perennial online sports gambling favorite almost any time they take to the pitch.
England, despite the passion and huge demands of their fans, has not had a lot of World Cup betting success in recent years and while they will enter this year as a dangerous club they will also enter with what is considered to be weakness at the all important goalkeeping position.
The “Three Lions” have a trio of goaltenders in Robert Green, David James, and Joe Hart that are not considered by most online sports gambling handicappers as being key assets. In fact, some experts consider that trio a potential World Cup betting liability.
Iker Casillas, the number one goalkeeper of Real Madrid, believes that the goalkeeping issue is one that will ultimately keep England from winning the World Cup this year and potentially failing to advance beyond the knock out stage.
“I can see why Lionel Messi and Xavi have talked up England’s chances at the FIFA World Cup because their class is undisputed,” said Casillas. “But their goalkeeping situation is a real problem.”
“None of the keepers have played even European Cup level, that’s the highest level you can play at club level,” Casillas went on to say. “And if you have never played in the top club competition in the world, you are going to find it hard to perform at the top international level in the world when even more eyes are on you.”
Casillas went on to point out the importance of international experience in having sports gambling success at the World Cup level. He said such experience helps a goalkeeper fight off the nerves of World Cup football betting and the intense spotlight that the world stage brings to that position.
Any mistake by a goalkeeper in World Cup action is going to face severe criticism and plenty of sports gambling attention.
In the end Green may get the job for England as Hart may have more ability but lacks the experience to take the stage in such an elite event.
Casillas still considers England a favorite to beat the World Cup betting odds along with Spain and Brazil.
