Sports Gambling - Mariners to Set Sail for 2010 AL Playoff Spot

Sports gambling anticipation is building for Major League Baseball’s opening day as everyone gambling in sports has Sunday, April 4 circled on the calendar.

Sports gambling fans on that day will get a first look at the Seattle Mariners, who are one of the gambling in sports favorites to contend for an American League playoff spot. Seattle showed marked improvement for the 2009 sports gambling season as they finished with a record of 85-77 as one of the most profitable teams on the board.

Seattle was an outstanding sports gambling value last year as little was expected out of them.  That is hardly the case this year as expectations are far higher which means that the element of surprise is gone and that the Mariners may face a drop in sports gambling board value for 2010 even if they win more games.

The main reason for Seattle’s online sports gambling success in 2009 was their pitching staff that finished 6th best in the major leagues for staff earned run average at 3.87.  Number one starter Felix Hernandez anchors the pitching staff.  Hernandez had a record last year of 19-5 with a 2.49 earned run average.

Hernandez is a fine strike out pitcher as he had 217 K’s in 238.2 innings of work for 2009.  Number 2 starter Cliff Lee finished 14-13 with a 3.22 earned run average and had 181 strikeouts in 231.2 innings of work.

In 2008 when Lee was with the Cleveland Indians he went 22-3 with a 2.54 earned run average so he is a proven commodity with plenty of upside potential.  Closer David Aardsma had 38 saves in 42 chances last year with a 2.52 earned run average. He is yet another strikeout ace as he whiffed 80 batters in 71.1 innings last year.

Offense was the sports gambling weakness of the Mariners last year as they finished a poor 28th in the major leagues for run production.  That will have to improve if they are to make a run at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for the top spot in the American League West.
