Online Sports Gambling - Swiss Could Bring Value

Online sports gambling handicappers looking for what could be a bargain value may want to consider Switzerland as a commodity that could surprise.

Online sports gambling favorite Spain heads up Group H as the overwhelming favorite, but the Swiss are a team that could spring a big upset along the way.

Switzerland will have an immediate chance to shock gamblers with the World Cup betting line as they will play Spain on Wednesday, June 16 in the opener for both teams.  The Swiss will them take on Chile on June 21 and Honduras on June 25.

Switzerland may believe that they can spring a major online sports gambling upset but their recent history on the World Cup stage has not been all that successful.  This will be their ninth World Cup appearance and they have not gone beyond the quarterfinals since all the way back in 1954.

Their best soccer finish recently, however, is what gives them guarded optimism for World Cup gambling success as they finished first in Group G ahead of eventual runner up France in the 2006 tournament held in Germany.  They eventually were eliminated in the knock out round by Ukraine.

Switzerland will have as a sports gambling asset one of the top managers in the world with Ottmar Hitzfeld, who has experience in both the German and Swiss professional leagues and he has won titles in the prestigious Champions League.

Switzerland has bounced up and down with the World Cup gambling rankings in recent years as they have been as high as 3rd in the FIFA rankings in 1993 and as low as 83rd in 1998.  They are currently ranked 20th in the FIFA rankings.

The online sports gambling matchup with Spain will be the supreme test for Switzerland as they have failed to defeat Spain in 15 previous matches.  They last played on the World Cup stage in 1994 with Spain scoring a 3-0 win.

Switzerland lacks a big name star but their group is considered to be weak outside of powerhouse Spain.  While they will be a long shot with the World Cup betting odds stranger and more improbable upsets have taken place in the past and team play could propel the Swiss to success.
