Poker hands in Texas holdem poker start with the two poker players to the left of the dealer putting in "blind" bets. A "blind" is a forced bet in which the poker player to the direct left of the dealer at the table pays a "small blind" which is one half of a minimum poker bet and the player two seats over from the dealer at the table paying a "big blind" which is one minimum poker bet.

The blind amounts are always established before a poker game whether at a live poker table or at an online poker website. In some cases, particularly in the later stages of a Texas holdem poker tournament, all of the poker players at the poker table will also have to make antes in addition to the blinds.

Betting begins in Texas holdem poker after each player has been dealt their two hole cards dealt face down. The first poker player to act is the player sitting to the immediate left of the big blind, with action continuing clockwise until each player at the table has acted in turn, which in the first round (also known as the "come in" round) ends at the big blind.

Players may call (make a minimum bet), raise (bet an amount above the established minimum), or fold their poker hands into the muck and sit out the rest of the hand. After the "come in" round the dealer puts three community cards face up on the center of the poker table which is known as the flop.

This starts the second round of betting, which is initiated by the small blind, or the first active poker player to the immediate left of the small blind that didn't fold. Action again goes in a clockwise manner until all active poker players have had an opportunity to bet, raise or fold.

At the conclusion of betting on the flop, the dealer places a fourth community card face up on the center of the poker table next to the initial three community cards that were dealt face up on the flop. This is known as the "turn" or "Fourth Street." Betting action follows in the same manner as after the flop.

At the conclusion of betting action on Fourth Street a fifth and final community card is dealt which is known as the "River" or "Fifth Street." Betting action follows in the same manner as after the flop and "Fourth Street".

Betting limit and or minimum amounts in Texas holdem poker are determined before the game and are noted at the table. They will vary from game to game but are always announced in advance. Poker is the hottest game around and one you should play today.
