NHL playoffs are often a matter of home ice advantage and Pittsburgh is trying to close the regular season out well so that they can have home ice advantage in the first round of the hockey playoffs.

The Florida Panthers will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday with a starting time of 7 PM ET.  The Penguins have been in and out of the 4th spot of the Eastern Conference standings and must get there to stay if they are to have home ice advantage in the opening round of the post season which makes this game of major importance to them.

Pittsburgh was 44-23-5-3 with the hockey betting odds despite their superstar player Sidney Crosby missing action since the first of January due to a concussion issue.  Pittsburgh ranked 13th in the NHL for goal scoring and 6th for goals against.

It is remarkable that despite missing all of this time that Crosby was still the team’s leading scorer with 32 goals and 34 assists.  Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury has stepped up with 33 wins, 3 shutouts, and a 2.30 goals against average.  Left winger Chris Kunitz was the second leading goal scorer on the team with 22.

Florida had a record of 29-36-5-5 with the hockey betting line as the Panthers have been rebuilding under the first year leadership of general manager Dale Talon.  Florida has been a weak offensive team that was ranked 27th in the NHL for goal scoring.

The Panthers got the money in just 3 out of 10 games from March 6 through March 25. Florida went over the total in 13 of their 38 home games.

Pittsburgh has dominated this head to head series with 12 payouts in their last 16 games against the Panthers.  Pittsburgh has beaten Florida in 7 of the last 9 games between the teams including 2 straight and the series has gone under the total in 4 of the last 6 meetings.

Florida was a +65000 long shot at Sports-Gambling to win the Stanley Cup while Pittsburgh was a +550 choice to win the 2011 NHL playoffs.
