Toronto was within 4 points of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference as they tried to make up ground after a disastrous start to the season that put them deep in the hole in which they have tried to dig out of ever since.  The Maple Leafs had a hockey wagering record of 31-31-5-5 and were 15-17-2-1 on the road.

Toronto ranked a poor 24th in the NHL for goal scoring and was ranked 25th for goals against.  The Leafs lost 5 out of 7 games from March 5 through March 17.  Center Mikhail Grabovski led the Leafs with 27 goals and 26 assists while fellow center Phil Kessel had 28 goals and 25 assists.

Colorado has been perhaps the biggest disappointment of all with the hockey odds this season as they have gone from a playoff team to one of the worst entries in the Western Conference.  The Avalanche had an overall record of 26-36-7-1 and were 14-17-4 at home.  Colorado trended heavily over the total as a host with 25 of their 35 home games clearing the total.

The Avalanche were done in by their defense that ranked a disgraceful 30th in the NHL for goals against.  The Avs were 16th in the NHL for goal scoring.

Colorado has won 3 of their last 4 games against Toronto as the series has gone under the total in 2 of the last 3 meetings.  The Avalanche have beaten the Leafs in 3 of their last 4 matchups at Denver with the last 2 meetings in the Mile High City going over the NHL betting total.
