NHL betting concerns are mounting for the long term prospects of the Montreal Canadiens as although they are in solid playoff position they are not looking like a true hockey betting Cup contender.

The Montreal Canadiens will host the Washington Capitals on Saturday night with a starting time of 7 PM ET.  Sports Gambling will have side and total odds on this potential Eastern Conference playoff series so be sure and open your account and have it ready for action today!

Washington has been on fire and a virtual cash cow for gamblers as of late as they won 12 out of 14 hockey wagering matchups from February 20 through March 18.  Washington was also trending under with 8 out of 10 games staying under the number to begin the month of March.

The Caps climbed to the top of the Southeast Division and Eastern Conference as they were in a dogfight with the Philadelphia Flyers for the top spot and home ice advantage in the East.  Washington improved to 42-21-5-5 overall and was 20-13-3 on the road. The Caps went over the total in just 7 out of 36 away games.

Washington has been surprising on both ends of the ice as they were ranked a very disappointing 20th in the NHL for goal scoring while ranking a highly surprising 3rd for goals against, a mirror opposite performance from what public perception about them is.  Left winger Alexander Ovechkin had 29 goals and 48 assists to lead the team.

Montreal had a record of 39-26-4-3 with the hockey odds and was a strong 22-9-3-3 at home.  The Canadiens 7 game upset as an 8 seed over top seed Washington in last year’s playoffs was an epic win that has left the Caps extra motivated for 2011.

Montreal was led by goaltender Carey Price who had a 2.38 goals against average with 34 wins while Tomas Plekanec led the offense with 53 points.  Montreal is a near lock for the playoffs.

Washington has won 3 of their last 4 visits to Montreal and the series has gone under the NHL betting total in just 1of the last 7 matchups at Montreal.
