NHL Hockey Betting: Edmonton Oilers vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The Oilers will travel to the “Windy City” to square off against the Blackhawks in an NHL hockey betting affair.

The Oilers (4-0-0) are off to their best start in a little over 20 years under Coach Craig McTavish having allowed the second fewest goals in the Western Conference.  The Chicago Blackhawks, who boasts a decent 2-0-1 home record, has become a popular choice with pro hockey gamblers to start the young season.

Edmonton has been very friendly to NHL bettors as they’re one of just two teams left in the league with an undefeated record per the closing NHL odds.  However, none of those wins have come easy as the Oilers have won all four games by just one goal.  The Oilers offensive success has been all about playing as a team.

Of the 13 goals scored, nine different players have lit the lamp and no player has scored more than twice this season.  Mathieu Garon has only allowed six goals through three games and has posted one of the league’s best save percentages at .941.

Also impressive has been the Oilers defense that along with their traditional roles have two of the team’s top four point scorers, a quality that Oilers bettors haven’t overlooked this season.

In Chicago’s last game against Vancouver, 2007 #1 overall pick Patrick Kane scored one goal and Patrick Sharp added two more to give new HC Joel Quenneville his first win as Blackhawks head coach.

Before that triumph, the Blackhawks were 1-4 ATS in their first five give games against the closing pro hockey betting line.  Blackhawks goaltenders Cristobal Huet and Nikolai Khabibulin haven’t gotten off to great starts.  Both have 1-1-1 records, both have started three games, and both of their GAA’s average is 2.6 goals per game.

With Chicago’s shoddy GAA’s, it’s no wonder that NHL hockey betting fans have seen two-thirds of the Blackhawks games get past the ‘total’ for ‘over’ backers.  The NHL line finds the Blackhawks (2-2-2) sitting as -120 home favorites against the Oilers with a game ‘total’ of 5.5 goals.
