Hockey betting odds may have had the Vancouver Canucks as a huge favorite to win the Stanley Cup but NHL gambling fans know that it’s never easy to go all the way.
The Vancouver Canucks will host the Nashville Predators on Saturday night in game 5 of their Western Conference semifinals series with a starting time of 8 PM ET and a telecast on Versus. Be sure to have your Sports Gambling account open and ready for side and total odds on this one.
There are times when Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne resembles a one man team in the NHL playoffs. Rinne literally stole game 2 of this series and is the most valuable Predator by far. Should Nashville take this series it will be because Rinne was the far superior goaltender to what the Canucks have provided in the series as Roberto Luongo’s issues in goal are well documented.
Nashville coach Barry Trotz has set up a team that is perfectly suited for playoff hockey as the Preds spent the 82 game regular season utilizing a playoff style approach to their game with tight checking and Rinne’s goaltending. The offensive production for the Preds is basically by committee as they lack a dominant superstar such as the Sedin brothers for Vancouver.
The Sedin brothers will be under intense pressure in this matchup as they have been up and down during the NHL betting post season after a dominant regular season. Vancouver has needed great offense to overcome their defensive and goaltending issues.
Most handicappers believe that this series will come down to the goaltending of Roberto Luongo of Vancouver and Pekka Rinne of Nashville. Luongo was celebrated as the Gold Medal winning goaltender of Team Canada in the 2010 Winter Olympics and may fans and gamblers thought that he would be an ace with the hockey betting odds.
Instead Luongo has been wildly inconsistent and erratic while Rinne has proven to be a world class goaltender that can literally steal games all by himself. The tight checking Predators will never stop working and this only serves to put added pressure on the Vancouver defense and Luongo. This game will likely come down to mistakes.
