Super Bowl odds handicappers will have their choice of two exciting and well versed teams that are peaking at the perfect time to make for a challenging handicap with the NFL betting odds.

The AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the NFC Champion Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV on Sunday, February 6, 2011 with a kickoff time set for 6:30 PM ET and a telecast on FOX.  Sports Gambling opened with Green Bay as a 2.5 point favorite for the Super Bowl gambling game with a total of 46.

What is interesting about the opening line is that Green Bay was the 6th and last seed in the NFC Playoffs as a wild card team while the Steelers were the number 2 seed in the AFC as champions of the North Division and yet the Pack is the favorite.

Both teams have strong nationwide fan bases so the line is not based on Green Bay being the only team with legions of fans for this game.  Instead the line is based on what the public likely perceives the Packers to be right at this moment with the football betting lines rather than their struggles in December in which it looked as if they may not make the playoffs.

The Packers have incredible momentum that was built up over the past month by beating NFC North champion Chicago in the regular season finale to make the playoffs and then winning three consecutive playoff road games starting at NFC East Champion Philadelphia, then at NFC South Champion Atlanta, and then finally at NFC North Champion Chicago for a murderers row of wins that will impress everyone making Super Bowl picks.

Pittsburgh took advantage of home field to defeat Baltimore and the New York Jets, a pair of wild card teams.

Both teams have excellent quarterbacks and defenses while Pittsburgh would rate the edge with their running game and special teams, which makes them an attractive dog with the Super Bowl odds as they would have likely been the favorite for Super Sunday against almost any other team from the NFC.
