NFL gambling handicappers were not impressed with a flat Minnesota Vikings team that failed to generate much offense in a football gambling loss at New Orleans.

The two teams will meet this week in Minnesota as the homestanding Vikings opened as a 5.5–point favorite at Sports-Gambling with an over/under of 40.  Kickoff is at 1:05 PM Eastern.

The Miami Dolphins scored a win with the NFL odds last week at Buffalo 15-10 as 3-point road favorites as the game stayed under the number.  Although it was not an artistic masterpiece the Dolphins got the job done with the ultimate result but want more.

“I’m on my way from the field to the locker room and I was thinking, ‘OK, how do we get to 2-0?’” said head coach Tony Sparano.  Quarterback Chad Henne was 21-34 for 182 yards in the win while running backs Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams had 65 and 62 yards respectively.

Sparano gave Henne credit and said growth will continue.  “He’s still growing,” said Sparano.  “He’s a young quarterback that’s going to go out there every week and get better and better.”

The Minnesota Vikings lost their opener against the New Orleans Saints 14-9 and failed to cover the NFL bet as a 4.5-point road dog as the game went under the total.  While much has been made about quarterback Brett Favre missing training camp the problems went beyond the 40-year old signal caller.

Despite the loss the team is still thinking Super Bowl.  “We’ve built a team that we expect to go all the way,” said owner Zygi Wilf.  “We’re not holding back right now.”  Favre was 15-27 for 171 yards and looked rusty in the opener.  “We can get a lot better,” said Favre, who had to adjust to a patchwork receiving corps.

The last NFL gambling matchup between these teams was in 2006 when Miami scored a 24-20 home win as 3-point chalks.  The road team has not covered the spread in the last 5 matchups between the teams.  Miami has covered the spread in 12 out of their last 16 road games with 10 out of their last 14 road games going under the total.

Minnesota has covered 5 straight home games and has gone under the total in 5 out of their last 6 games at home.
