NFL gambling respect is also growing for the Detroit Lions as they have scored 4 football betting payouts despite winning just 1 game straight up so far this year.

The New York Giants opened as 10 point home favorites over the Detroit Lions at Sports-Gambling with an over/under of 44.5.  Kickoff for the FOX telecast is set for 1:05 PM Eastern.

The Detroit Lions have a record of 1-4 straight up and 4-1 with the NFL odds.  The Lions are coming off their best performance so far this season in a 44-6 romp over the St. Louis Rams.  The Lions have been competitive in every game so far this season and could easily be 4-1 straight up.

Against the Rams the Lions took out all of their frustrations of the previous month and were on their way after Stefan Logan’s 105 yard kickoff return broke a 7-7 tie.  Backup quarterback Shaun Hill, who is filling in for the injured Matt Stafford, passed for 227 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Detroit is showing noticeable improvement from last year and ranks 6th in the NFL for scoring and 23rd for points allowed.

The New York Giants have a record of 3-2 both straight up and with the NFL lines.  New York scored its second consecutive win of the season last week by manhandling the Houston Texans on the road 34-10.  Quarterback Eli Manning passed for 297 yards and 3 touchdowns while the defense suffocated the normally potent Texans attack.

New defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has sparked a big improvement as the unit ranks 2nd overall in the NFL while Big Blue ranks 5th in total offense.  After a sluggish 1-2 start the Giants share the lead in the NFC East and head coach Tom Coughlin appears to be off the hot seat for now.

The offense is showing good balance although Manning has an 8/8 touchdown interception ratio that needs improvement.

The Giants are winning back handicappers after burning them bad in 2009 but this is the type of game that they cannot afford a letdown in.  It will be interesting to see how hard the Lions play after finally scoring a blowout win.

The road team has covered in the last 6 NFL gambling matchups in this series.
