NFL Gambling - Arizona at Atlanta

NFL gambling intrigue continues for the Cardinals and Derek Anderson, who unexpectedly ripped the job from Matt Leinart to start the football gambling season.

NFL gambling handicappers were impressed with Anderson and the Cardinals as they scored an important football gambling payout in the opener last week.

This week the Cardinals will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons.  Sports-Gambling opened with the Atlanta Falcons as a 7-point home favorite and with a total of 42.5.  Kickoff is at 1:05 PM Eastern.

The Arizona Cardinals held on to defeat the St. Louis Rams last week in the season opener and beat the NFL odds as 3-point road favorites as the game stayed under the total.  There was considerable speculation about how the Cardinals would play against the Rams with Anderson as the surprise signal caller.

Anderson came through with 297 yards and 1 touchdown as he took considerable abuse from the Rams pass rush.  The win should give the Cardinals confidence moving forward but prime wideout Larry Fitzgerald is not 100% and Anderson will need him as time goes on.  Fitzgerald had 15 receptions against the Rams but for small yardage.

The Atlanta Falcons lost a tough and disappointing opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers and 3rd string quarterback Dennis Dixon 15-9 in overtime as they failed to cover the NFL bet as 1-point road chalks with the game staying beneath the number.  The fact that the Falcons failed to take advantage of the Steelers plight did not impress handicappers.

Atlanta struggled with the Pittsburgh 3-4 defense and ran for only 58 yards on 25 carries and quarterback Matt Ryan had only a 67.6 QB rating.  Although Ryan was 27-44 for 258 yards none of his completions were over 20 yards.  “We didn’t block them up front,” said Falcons head coach Mike Smith.

“We didn’t get movement on the line of scrimmage.”  The loss makes this home opener filled with even more pressure and urgency for the Falcons.

Atlanta has covered 4 out of the last 6 NFL gambling matchups in this head to head series with just 1 out of the last 8 meetings between these two teams going under the total.  Arizona has covered just 2 out of their last 6 on the road with 4 of those games going under the total.

Arizona has covered 10 out of their last 11 as a dog.  Atlanta is 12-5 against the spread at home with 4 consecutive unders.
