NFL betting fans were reminded last week that the New England Patriots are a leading contender for the Super Bowl and one of the most consistent teams on the NFL gambling board.
On Thanksgiving Day the Detroit Lions will host the New England Patriots with a telecast on CBS at 12:35 PM ET. Sports-Gambling opened with New England as a 7 point favorite and with an over/under of 5.
While the Patriots are playing well they cannot afford any slip ups as the New York Jets are tied with them for first place in the AFC East as Baltimore and Pittsburgh are also very much in the race for the number one seed in the AFC and the home field advantage that comes with it.
New England is 8-2 straight up and 5-4-1 with the NFL gambling odds as 8 of their 10 games have gone over the total. The Patriots are coming off a 31-28 win over Indianapolis although they failed to get the money as 4 point home favorites.
Led by quarterback Tom Brady, who is playing as well as ever, the Patriots have the top scoring offense in the NFL. The defense continues to struggle with inconsistency as it ranks 30th overall although a somewhat less bad 23rd for points allowed.
Coach Bill Belichick retooled the unit in the off season after the last year’s playoff debacle against Baltimore but it is yet to show championship form. BenJarvis Green-Ellis has rushed for 568 yards with Wes Welker adding 502 yards receiving. Brady has 2362 yards in the air.
The Detroit Lions have a betting on NFL football record of 2-8 straight up and but 7-3 against the spread as 7 of their games have gone over the total. The Lions have lost 3 in a row and are coming off a 35-19 loss at Dallas. Detroit is beginning to fade as the fact that they have been competitive has kept their opponents attention.
The Lions have shown improvement on both sides of the line as they rank 19th in the NFL for total offense and defense. Shaun Hill continues to fill in well for the injured Matt Stafford at quarterback and the Lions rank 6th overall in NFL betting for passing yards.
