NFL Sports Betting - Steelers Preseason Preview

NFL sports betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers for the NFL football gambling preseason may not be as bad as one might originally think despite their status as a popular champion.

NFL sports betting success in the preseason often comes with strong defensive teams and there are few better in NFL football gambling than the Steelers.  The Steelers went 3-1 straight up in the NFL sports betting preseason last year but it must be pointed out that they were just 1-3 against the NFL football gambling spread.

This is because the Steelers are one of the most popular teams on the NFL sports betting board as well as one of the most respected.  Even though Pittsburgh will not play starters much in the NFL sports betting preseason they are still regarded by the public as a superior team, which ultimately harms their NFL sports betting value.

Pittsburgh, ironically enough, opens the 2009 NFL sports betting preseason at home with a super bowl rematch against the Arizona Cardinals August 13 on ESPN.  The motivational factors would seem to favor the Cardinals, but then again the lineups will be so laden with substitutes and 3rd line players that it may not matter.

Plus the Steelers are not likely to want to be shown up at home, even in NFL sports betting preseason action.  Next Pittsburgh will travel to Washington to face the Redskins on August 22.

Washington was a good preseason team last year and it figures that their head coach Jim Zorn will want to reestablish some momentum and a positive attitude after their collapse at the end of the 2008 season.

Pittsburgh returns home August 29 to host the Buffalo Bills, who are likely to be more motivated than most teams in the 2009 NFL sports betting preseason.  The Bills would love to score a win at Pittsburgh, even if its an exhibition, as it would be quite a morale boost for the regular season.

The Steelers close preseason play in what very well could have been last year’s super bowl matchup with the Carolina Panthers on September 3.  The home standing Panthers will have their fans, but little else to play for as both teams will want to avoid key injuries.
