NFL lines were beaten consistently by the Titans last year but they stumbled in the opening round of the playoffs in a stunning upset by Baltimore against the NFL gambling odds. Despite losing against the NFL lines as the number one seed in the AFC playoffs the Titans are still one of the teams to beat against the NFL gambling odds this year.
They do not figure to be a team that is going to put a lot of effort against the NFL lines in preseason as they will want to stay healthy for when the games count. Tennessee will open their preseason against the NFL lines on Sunday, August 9 as they play the Buffalo Bills in the Hall of Fame Game at Canton, Ohio.
That game will be telecast on NBC. The Titans will next host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, August 15 against the NFL lines.
Tampa Bay looks to be a rebuilding team for 2009 as long time head coach Jon Gruden was dismissed following their collapse down the stretch last year and starting quarterback Jeff Garcia departed for the Oakland Raiders. This might be one of the more winnable games for Tennessee against the NFL lines.
The Titans will next travel to Dallas for the first game ever against the NFL lines at the Cowboys new stadium on Friday, August 21. Dallas would figure to have more than the usual preseason motivation for this one but that is offset by the Cowboys also being a contender for the playoffs this year against the NFL lines.
Dallas is also coming off a poor finish to their 2008 season so that may be additional incentive to get the fans back on their side. Tennessee will then travel to Cleveland to play the Browns on Saturday, August 29 before closing out the exhibition campaign on Thursday, September 3 when they host the Green Bay Packers.
