NFL Lines No Longer Dismissive of Cardinals

NFL Lines handicappers were blown away by an NFL gambling phenomenon that everyone had figured would never happen.

NFL lines were beaten by the Arizona Cardinals as they made the NFL gambling summit of the Super Bowl last year for the first time in their history.  The Cardinals success against the NFL lines was due in large part to head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who arrived from Pittsburgh where he served in one of the best and most successful NFL gambling franchises.

Whisenhunt immediately changed the attitude and expectations of the Cardinals against the NFL Lines and the players bought right into it.  Still, as one of the worst franchises in history against the NFL Lines, it was tough for gamblers to buy into the Cardinals and accept them as a legitimate contender for the Super Bowl.

Arizona was not always impressive against the NFL Lines during the 2008 regular season as they finished 9-7 both straight up and against the spread.  They suffered blowout losses at the New York Jets (35-56), at Philadelphia (20-48), and at New England (7-47), which hardly inspired confidence against the NFL Lines.

A home loss of 29-37 against the New York Giants didn’t help either but Arizona also had some factors in their favor.  First, the Cardinals played in the NFC west division which was arguably the worst in pro football.

The other advantage that Arizona had against the NFL Lines was one of the most prolific passing attacks in the league as they ranked 2nd overall in passing and 3rd overall in scoring.

37-year old Kurt Warner resurrected his playing career with a phenomenal season against the NFL Lines in which he threw for 4583 yards and 30 touchdowns while finishing with a quarterback rating of 96.9.

Warner was particularly impressive in the post season as the Cardinals covered all 4 games and had the Super Bowl title in hand before their defense let them down and allowed a late score to the Steelers.

If the Cardinals can improve their defense they will be tough to beat in 2009 as they are a scoring machine that shows no sign of slowing down!
