In fact, there are very few sports in American culture that have known the longevity that NFL football betting has known. NFL football betting originated in 1922 with the establishment of the league. In the early 1960’s Lamar Hunt, the man that tried to corner the silver market in the 1980’s –and did a pretty good job- was disgruntled that the NFL would not accepts him as an owner so he created his own league to rival that of the NFL, a league that most fans know as the AFL.
But one interesting tid bit that many fans may not know is that Al Davis, the prehistoric owner of one of NFL betting’s worst teams at the present, was actually the commissioner of the AFL. When these two leagues merged in 1966 there was no one in the world that believed that the AFL could compete with the NFL.
NFL football betting history has proved that to be an enormous fallacy. The Super Bowl came about several years before the official football betting merger of the two leagues and that helped pave the way to create the NFL that fans know today.
All and all, it’s been a long and historical ride for fans and in the US has never been more competitive as a result. Today NFL football betting stands alone as America’s favorite sporting event.
