Football gambling handicappers will have their choice of a perennial Super Bowl contender and an upstart NFL sports betting commodity looking for another upset win.
Kickoff time for this one is set for 8:30 PM Eastern and Sports-Gambling opened with Indianapolis as a 3 point favorite and with an over/under of 43.5.
It has not always been pretty but the Washington Redskins have a share of first place in the NFC East with a record of 3-2 both straight up and with the pro football betting lines. Last week Washington upset the Green Bay Packers in a 16-13 home win that came on a game ending field goal.
New head coach Mike Shanahan has brought a sense of purpose and professionalism to the Redskins which has served more than anything else to spark the team. Quarterback Donovan McNabb has an 81.9 QB rating so far in his first year as a Redskin and has simply played within himself and tried to avoid mistakes.
Washington ranks 24th in offensive scoring and has a bizarre defensive rank of dead last overall for yards allowed but is 9th best in points permitted.
The Indianapolis Colts have a record of 3-2 both straight up and with the NFL gambling odds. The Colts continue to defy their naysayers that wrote them off after a bad opening loss at Houston. Indianapolis is in a 3-way tie for first place in the AFC South.
The Colts are coming off a 19-9 home win and payout over the Kansas City Chiefs in their best defensive performance of the season. Indianapolis ranks 29th in the NFL against the rush but 16th for points allowed.
The offense continues its tradition of near total reliance on Peyton Manning as Indy ranks 4th in passing, 28th in rushing, and 3rd in scoring. Manning has been in MVP form with a 102.6 QB rating.
Washington is finding ways to win and the Colts will not get away with anything less than their A-Game. The Redskins bend but don’t break defense will allow yards but the Colts will need better production from their ground game to score the football gambling payout.
Washington has a solid ground attack with Clinton Portis and should be able to run and eat up the clock while keeping Manning off the field.
