Football Gambling Problems With Denver Defense

Football gambling saw one of the great epic downfalls of a team in recent NFL betting history with the Denver Broncos in December of 2008.

Football gambling handicappers had fully expected the Broncos to take the weak AFC west division and they had a firm hold on it with 3 weeks to go in the NFL betting season.  Denver had nobody breathing down their neck in the football gambling sprint to the finish but then fell to pieces and allowed the San Diego Chargers to slip in through the back door.

Defense, or a lack of it, was the NFL betting downfall of Denver.  With an 8-5 football gambling record the Broncos traveled to Carolina to face the Panthers as 7 point dogs.  They were blown out in a 10-30 loss in which the defense allowed 147 yards rushing and 253 more yards in the air.

Still, all Denver had to do was come up with a football gambling home win against hapless Buffalo and the playoffs would be theirs.  Once again the defense was the football gambling liability as the Broncos were upset 23-30 as 6 point home chalks as the Bills scored 14 4th quarter points for the upset win.

Now Denver was in trouble as San Diego had put together a football gambling winning streak and hosted the Broncos in the regular season finale with the division title and playoff spot at stake.

It was no football gambling contest as the Chargers blew out the Broncos on Sunday Night national television 52-21 as 7 point chalks to send Denver coach Mike Shanahan packing after the game.  Denver was humiliated as they allowed 289 yards rushing in a football gambling disgrace that showed a lack of effort and determination.

Josh McDaniels replaced Shanahan as coach but the defense still looks highly uestionable.

After taking running back Knowshon Moreno in the first round of the draft Denver went with defense in 4 out of their next 5 selections with linebacker Robert Ayers, cornerback Alphonso Smith, cornerback Darcel McBath, and free safety David Bruton.

Unfortunately there were no veteran free agent imports of any significance.  There is little reason for handicappers to believe that Denver’s defense is improved.
