Football betting fans have seen the Lions do a complete make over from the front office to the coaching staff to the roster in order to rebuild against the football odds. An interesting battle for the starting quarterback position is taking shape for the football betting preseason.
This is one of the main intangibles for Detroit in exhibition action against the football odds. Currently listed number one on the football betting depth chart is Daunte Culpepper, an 11 year pro out of Central Florida.
Culpepper at one time was considered one of the top signal callers in all of football betting and had a sensational 2004 season with the Minnesota Vikings in which he threw for 4717 yards and a 111 quarterback rating with 39 touchdown passes and just 11 interceptions.
But from there it has all been down hill and Culpepper’s decline has been one of the most alarming in all of football betting. Last year with the Lions he had just a 64 quarterback rating with 4 touchdown passes and 6 interceptions in 5 games played.
Culpepper is going to get a stiff challenge from Matthew Stafford, the number one overall draft pick in the 2009 draft out of Georgia. Head coach Jim Schwartz had been public about the fact that Stafford will get a good long look in the football betting preseason and be given every opportunity to win the starting job.
Drew Stanton, a 3 year pro out of Michigan State will also take his fair share of football betting snaps in the preseason. Stanton saw limited action for the Lions last year but put up decent numbers when he played.
The Lions also took tight end Brandon Pettigrew of Oklahoma State in the first round of the draft and he will see plenty of football betting action in the pre season. It is hoped that Pettigrew and Stafford will become a dynamic duo of first round selections.
