The highest odds for the third week of the 2015 NFL season come from the New England Patriots’ home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Patriots are -14.5 favorites over the Jaguars in this game in Foxboro. There is a 47.5-point over/under for the game as well. The spread for the game is so large that there are no moneyline bets for a straight win on this game. This is primarily due to how the Patriots have such a huge line and could be a tougher game for people to pick than what so many others like to believe.
Checking On the Patriots
The New England Patriots are clearly favored thanks in part to the team having won its first two games and for having 68 points. This is the second-highest point total within the NFL this year.
Tom Brady has been motivated more than ever before to show that he’s still one of the top quarterbacks in the game. He already has shown his mettle as he has 754 passing yards and seven touchdowns with no interceptions. Four of those touchdowns went to Rob Gronkowski.
The team also has eleven sacks, thus making it an extremely tough team for quarterbacks to face. Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins both have multiple sacks this year.
What About the Jaguars?
The Jacksonville Jaguars had a close win against Miami last week to give them a 1-1 record. Blake Bortles has three touchdowns and two interceptions while getting a little less than 500 passing yards. Rookie running back T.J. Yeldon has 121 rushing yards this year although he is yet to get his first touchdown.
One major concern for the Jags comes from Bortles having been sacked five times so far this year. Considering how tough the Pats’ pass defense has been so far this year, this could make for a real problem for the Jaguars.
The Jaguars still hold one of the weakest scoring offenses in the NFL. The team only has 32 points scored in its first two games, thus giving them the third-worst scoring total in the NFL in this young season.
The strong pressure that the Patriots are expected to bring to the Jaguars is a huge part of what has made the sports gambling odds for this game so high. The Jaguars will certainly be trying to cover the spread and possibly pull off a big win but even that would be a challenge considering the statistical disparity between the two teams.
