NCAA football gambling fans will have their choice of two likely bowl teams for 2010 that will also be among the NCAA football wagering favorites to win their respective leagues.
Sports-Gambling opened with #19 Miami as a 3.5–point favorite. Kickoff Thursday is at 7:30 PM Eastern.
The Pitt Panthers lost their opening game at Utah 27-24 in a push as 3-point dogs and then scored a 38-16 win over New Hampshire in their home opener on September 11 to stand at 1-1 on the season. Miami is also 1-1 so far and coming off a disappointing 36-24 loss at Ohio State as 8-point dogs on September 11.
Much was expected from Miami heading in this season as the Hurricanes were among the favorites with the NCAA betting odds to win the Atlantic Coast Conference and possibly even contend for the national championship. Their loss at #2 Ohio State was a rude awakening as to where they really stand among the nation’s elite.
The loss was an embarrassment that ignited a tirade from the normally cool and calm head coach Randy Shannon. Shannon boiled over due to the way that Miami killed its chances with a litany of mistakes.
Players missed assignments, blew blocks, and ran the wrong routes on passes throughout the game while quarterback Jacory Harris tossed 4 interceptions but was also betrayed by his receivers who dropped a total of 9 passes in the game.
Pitt meanwhile has had to deal with the challenge of meshing 11 new starters into the lineup. Pitt’s asset with the NCAA betting lines has been a strong running game but this year it has struggled as the inexperienced offensive line is yet to jell.
Miami has covered just 1 out of their last 4 NCAA football gambling matchups on the road with 3 of those 4 games going over the total. The Canes have gotten the money in just 9 out of their last 26 games when coming off a straight up loss.
Pitt is 17-10 against the spread when coming off a straight up win. Pitt has paid out in 6 out of their last 9 home games with 7 out of their last 9 home games going under the total.
