NCAA football betting expectations are on the rise for the Tennessee Volunteers as they finished strong with the NCAA football odds to salvage a bowl.

LP Field at Nashville, TN will play host to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Tennessee Volunteers.  ESPN will telecast the game on Thursday, December 30 with a starting time of 6:40 PM ET.

Sports Gambling opened with Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl odds of North Carolina -2.

North Carolina has a NCAA football gambling record of 7-5 straight up and 4-4 against the spread with 8 of their games going under the total.  Despite the suspensions of key personnel right before the season opener the Tar Heels responded with a strong effort and did much better than expected.

Quarterback TJ Yates passed for a 67% completion rate and 3184 yards with an 18/8 TD/INT ratio.   Dwight Jones had 895 yards receiving good for 15.7 yards per catch.  The highly touted defense went from great to good due to those suspensions but still managed to rank a respectable 32nd in the nation.

The Tennessee Volunteers had to overcome the sudden and unexpected departure of coach Lane Kiffin last winter at the peak of recruiting season and a 2-5 start to finish 6-6 straight up and 9-3 with the NCAA football odds.

Coach Derek Dooley did a solid job as the Vols were outmanned and yet competitive in games against Florida, LSU, and South Carolina.  Tennessee won their final 4 games of the season and got the money in all 4 as well to qualify for a bowl.  Tennessee went over the total in 9 of 12 games this year.

Tennessee’s strength is their passing game led by quarterback Tyler Bray, who threw for a 14/7 TD/INT ratio and 8.6 yards per attempt after taking over in mid season for Matt Simms.  Tauren Poole had 994 yards rushing and Denarius Moore had 912 yards receiving with an impressive 21.2 yards per catch and 9 TD’s.

All things considered both Dooley and Butch Davis of North Carolina turned in impressive coaching jobs and this NCAA football betting matchup looks like one of the most even of the bowl season.
