NCAA betting odds handicappers are feeling that Northwestern could be a team in trouble after their disheartening loss at Penn State last week with the NCAA betting lines.

Northwestern will host Iowa on Saturday with an ESPN telecast set for a noon ET kickoff.  Sports-Gambling opened with Iowa as a 12 point favorite.

The #13 Iowa Hawkeyes have a college football betting record of 7-2 straight up and 5-4 against the spread with an even 4-4-1 mark on over/under totals.  Iowa is coming off a major escape at Indiana last week as they held on for an 18-13 win as Indiana dropped the winning TD pass at the gun.

Iowa ranks 34th in scoring offense and a rock ribbed 6th for scoring defense.  Senior quarterback Richard Stanzi is contending for All Big Ten status as he has passed for 2212 yards and a 20/3 touchdown/interception ratio.  Adam Robinson has rushed for 806 yards and a 4.7 yards per carry average with 10 TD’s.

Iowa hosts Ohio State in what could be for all the marbles in the Big Ten next week and the near disaster at Indiana should have them more focused for this one.

Northwestern has a college football gambling record of 6-3 straight up and 2-7 against the spread with 6 of their games going over the total.  The Wildcats blew a 21-0 lead at Penn State last week in a potentially devastating 35-21 defeat that could have deep affects the rest of the season.

Northwestern could easily be undefeated as in their 3 losses they blew leads, 2 of them late in the game at home.  The defense ranks just 75th in the nation and 100th against the pass, a bad omen against Stanzi and the Hawkeyes.

The offense ranks a respectable 43rd with quarterback Dan Persa completing 73% of his passes for 2263 yards and a 13/3 TD/INT ratio.

Iowa is a strong and profitable 14-3 against the spread when coming off a game in which they failed to get the money.  Northwestern has paid out in just 2 of their last 10 home games.  Northwestern has beaten the NCAA betting odds in 4 of their last 5 against Iowa with the series going under 5 consecutive times.
