NCAA odds have seen Pittsburgh go 5-1 straight up and 3-2 against the college football gambling board while Rutgers is 4-1 straight up and 2-3 against the spread. The Pitt Panthers got their best NCAA odds win of the season last week when the rallied from a 21-6 deficit late in the 3rd quarter to win on a field goal at the gun against Connecticut.
Senior quarterback Bill Stull rallied after a terrible start to finish with 268 yards passing and 2 touchdowns to end up as the hero. Pitt entered this week as the only Big East team with 2 conference wins so far in the college football gambling season.
The Panthers could have lost their entire season with a NCAA odds loss to UConn but rallied when it counted. “Late in the game, it was a gut check for us”, said tight end Nate Byham. “We had to face adversity and we pushed on. We were tired and we were in pain, but we kept fighting and made plays”.
Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt is in his 5th year at Pitt and coming off his first bowl season with the NCAA odds. His Panthers have a solid offense that ranks 18th with the NCAA odds for scoring. Rutgers is coming off a 42-0 blowout home win over Texas Southern.
The Scarlet Knights have had an easy NCAA odds schedule since their opening day 15-47 loss to Cincinnati. Head coach Greg Schiano is pleased with his defense but realizes that his team must improve its overall play now that the Big East Conference schedule is in full swing with the NCAA odds.
“You’ve got a 5-1 Pittsburgh team coming in here that’s very talented”, said Schiano. “But I think we are playing well on defense”. Schiano also added, “We’ve got to take it up a notch”.
The visitor has beaten the NCAA odds 3 straight times in this head to head series as Rutgers clobbered Pitt last year 54-34 as 9.5 point road dogs. Pitt last beat Rutgers straight up in 2004.
