College football gambling respect continues to grow for the Mississippi State Bulldogs as they are one of the most improved teams in all of NCAA football wagering.
Alabama will host Mississippi State on Saturday night in a key Southeastern Conference matchup that will be telecast by ESPN2 with a starting time of 7:15 PM ET. Sports-Gambling opened with Alabama as a 14 point favorite.
#19 Mississippi State has a record of 7-2 straight up and 5-4 with the college football odds as 6 of their games have gone under the total. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week that followed a 24-17 home win and payout over Kentucky.
The Bulldogs are 3-2 in SEC play and stand 5th in the West Division behind Auburn, LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas. State is ranked 14th in the country for rushing led by Vick Ballard, who has 632 yards and a 6.8 yards per carry average with 13 touchdowns.
Quarterback Chris Relf ranks 2nd on the team with 495 yards rushing. Mississippi State ranks 9th overall for points allowed on defense to complete an old school style that has proven to be highly successful for 2nd year coach Dan Mullen, the former offensive coordinator of Florida.
The Bulldogs signature win this year was a 10-7 stunner at Florida.
The #12 Alabama Crimson Tide is coming off a 24-21 loss at LSU to fall to an overall record of 7-2 straight up and 5-4 with the college football lines as 5 of their games have gone under the total.
The Tide is ranked 31st in the nation for scoring offense and a strong 5th in scoring defense, although they faltered at LSU and gave up critical big plays in the clutch.
Although quarterback Greg McElroy has been solid with a 69% completion rate, an 8.8 yards per attempt average, and a 13/4 touchdown/interception ratio, he has not proven to be a dominant player that can single handedly carry a team to victory.
