College football gambling handicappers have focused their attention on an upstart Arkansas team that proved their worth as a top NCAA football gambling contender last week.
The #10 Arkansas Razorbacks scored a thrilling 31-24 win at Georgia as 1.5-point dogs to improve to 3-0 on the season. The defending BCS champion Alabama Crimson Tide destroyed Duke 62-13 last week as 23.5-point road favorites to remain #1 ranked and also at 3-0 on the season.
Sports-Gambling opened with Alabama as a 7-point favorite. Kickoff Saturday is at 3:30 PM Eastern and this game can be seen on CBS.
Alabama has beaten the college football odds in all 3 of their games this year and is ranked 4th overall in the country for total offense and 9th overall for total defense. The blowout win at Duke was enhanced by the return of 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram who took his first carry of the season 48 yards.
He finished with 151 yards and 2 touchdowns and the Tide enjoyed their first 600 yard output on offense since 1989. Defensive lineman Marcell Dareus was also back and he threw Duke back for a loss on their first rushing attempt. He returned to the lineup after a suspension for accepting improper benefits from an agent.
Arkansas’ win with the college football lines last week was clinched on a 40-yard pass from Ryan Mallett to Greg Childs with 15 seconds remaining after the Razorbacks blew a 2-touchdown lead in the 4th quarter. The signature road win, just the 2nd in coach Bobby Petrino’s tenure, sets up the biggest home game in years for the Hogs.
Mallett ended up with 380 yards and 3 touchdowns. Arkansas is ranked 3rd in the nation for passing and their defense has been a big surprise ranking 10th overall in the land.
Alabama has covered the spread in 3 out of their last 4 college football gambling matchups with Arkansas with 3 of those games also going over the total. Last year the Tide scored an easy 35-7 home win over the Hogs as 17.5-point favorites.
Alabama has paid out in 9 of their last 11 road games while Arkansas has gotten the money in 3 out of their last 4 home games.
