College Football Betting - Southern Miss at South Carolina

College football betting has finally arrived with excitement in full bloom as handicappers can bet on college football action beginning on Thursday.

College football betting includes an outstanding ESPN Thursday matchup of likely bowl teams to bet on college football with as South Carolina hosts Southern Miss.

Sports-Gambling.com opened with South Carolina as a 14-point favorite with an over/under of 47.  Kickoff is set for 7:35 PM Eastern.

Southern Miss has been stuck in a frustrating pattern in which they have won 7 games per year in 5 out of the past 6 seasons including the first two campaigns under current head coach Larry Fedora.  One of the reasons that former head coach Jeff Bower was let go was that the program felt it was capable of more.

Southern Miss has just 3 starters back on offense led by junior quarterback Austin Davis, who completed 69% of his passes and had a 10/2 TD/INT ratio last year.

The defense returns 9 starters and is expected to be the strength of the team.

“They’ve been playing since they were really young,” said Fedora.  “They’ve got a lot of plays under their belt now.  Up front will be the strength of our defense.”

While Fedora built up excitement for the program and attendance has increased but this will be a critical NCAA betting season as fans are expecting more.

“We need to get it done,” said Davis.  “Everybody, the coaches and players, we’re doing everything we know to fix it.”

Speaking of critical seasons and teams in need of a breakout campaign with the college football odds, South Carolina is in that same situation under 6th year head coach Steve Spurrier.

“The Old Ball Coach” arrived with much fanfare but has not been able to develop the same high powered offense that was a benchmark of his Florida teams in the 1990’s.

This could be Spurrier’s best Gamecock team, however, as 9 starters return on offense led by junior quarterback Stephen Garcia and 7 starters come back on a defense that has long been considered the strength of the team.

Spurrier has led Carolina to 4 bowls in 5 years but is frustrated as not breaking through to a championship level.

“We need to win big at South Carolina,” said Spurrier.

South Carolina has a college football betting mark of 8-5 against the spread as a home favorite while Southern Miss has gone 4-2 ATS as a road dog with Fedora.
