March Madness betting handicappers consider the Colonial Athletic Conference to be one of the best mid-major tournaments to handicap with the March Madness betting line.
The Colonial Athletic Association Conference Tournament will run from March 4-7 in Richmond, Virginia and boasts quality teams at the top that could go far beyond this event. That being said the Colonial is not likely to get much generosity from the selection committee so the importance of winning this event cannot be overstated.
The George Mason Patriots are the cream of the crop in the Colonial and are well known for their phenomenal March Madness bet run in 2006 as a Final Four team. George Mason had a record of 25-5 straight up and 21-7 against the spread and was an excellent team on both ends of the floor.
The Patriots finished with an offense that averaged 73.9 points per game and ranked even better on defense with 61.5 points per game, which was 27th best in the entire nation. Cameron Long led George Mason with 15.1 points per game.
The Patriots have the hot hand entering tournament play as they were 10-0 straight up and 8-2 against the spread in their final 10 games of the regular season.
As good as George Mason is, the Old Dominion Monarchs are a dangerous team as well that could prove to be an outstanding bet March Madness board value. The Monarchs were 24-6 straight up and 13-13-1 against the spread but showed outstanding form down the stretch as they got the money in their final 6 consecutive regular season games.
Old Dominion is a phenomenal defensive team that ranked 3rd best in the country with 58 points per game permitted. The offense was middle of the pack with 65.6 points per game. Frank Hassell led Old Dominion with 14.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. They split 2 games with George Mason this season.
Hofstra is a potential March Madness betting sleeper as they were 20-10 straight up and 14-12 against the spread with 4 payouts in their final 6 games of the season. They also have a bona fide dominant player in Charles Jenkins who was averaging 23.2 points per game.
