March Madness Betting - Butler Converting Believers

March Madness betting skepticism was high for the prospects of the Butler Bulldogs as they entered the 2011 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament as an underdog.

March Madness betting respect has grown for Butler however as they have proven that last year’s improbable run to the title game was not a fluke and that they are a bona fide March Madness bet title contender.

Butler will take on the Connecticut Huskies for the 2011 Men’s Basketball National Championship just one year after failing to hit a shot at the buzzer in their National Championship Game loss to the Duke Blue Devils.

For a mid major team like Butler getting a spot in the Big Dance is hard enough but to make the title game for two consecutive years is a miracle.

Butler and UConn have a scheduled starting tipoff time on Monday night of 9:25 PM ET as the game will be broadcast on CBS.  Sports Gambling opened with UConn as a 3.5 point favorite and with a bet March Madness total of 129.  The money line opened with UConn as a -175 favorite and Butler as a +155 dog.

Butler has emerged into the title game with the hottest coaching commodity in the game in Brad Stevens.

Stevens may be one of the youngest coaches in college basketball but he has earned national respect from basketball experts and handicappers for taking the Bulldogs to back to back title games, a feat that is near impossible for traditional power programs to pull off any more in this era of parity.

Butler has plenty of March Madness gambling momentum as they have paid out in 7 consecutive games heading into Monday’s title matchup.  The Bulldogs are solid but not great on both ends of the court and use smarts as much as talent to win games.

Stevens is a phenomenal system coach that stresses fundamentals and rebounding and it has paid off into making Butler a respected mid major power.

Stevens is linked to several high profile coaching jobs but it looks more likely that he will stay at Butler and try and do what Mark Few has done at Gonzaga and maintain a power program at a mid major level conference.

It is hard to calculate just what the March Madness betting odds would have been for Butler to make back to back title games but that impossible dream has come true.
