March Madness Gambling on KU 08 Run at Sports Gambling
March Madness gambling handicappers were leery of Kansas in 2008 because of their previous failures against the March Madness odds. Kansas in 2008, however, taught all March Madness gambling fans about persistence and value against the March Madness odds.
By the time the general public had written off Kansas as a perennial “choke” team in March Madness gambling, the Jayhawks became more valuable than ever before against the March Madness odds.
One of the biggest March Madness gambling mistakes that is most commonly made is that gamblers do the equivalent of the ultimate sin on Wall Street which is to “buy high and sell low”. That was the March Madness gambling predicament with Kansas.
For too many years the Jayhawks had burned eager March Madness gambling fans as heavy favorites that were upset by obscure teams in early rounds. The greatest March Madness gambling example of this for Kansas was in 2005 when they lost to Bucknell in the first round 63-64 as 14-point chalks.
The very next year, Kansas repeated with yet another March Madness gambling disaster in a 73-77 loss to Bradley as 7-point chalks. After that loss to Bradley the Jayhawks lost nearly all March Madness gambling credibility with the general public.
To put it another way it was the perfect equivalent of what you want to do on Wall Street which is to “buy low and sell high” as when tourney time came in the future the public would be soured on Kansas, making their March Madness gambling odds cheaper and a better value.
Kansas made the Final Four with 3 payoffs in their first 4 games and was an underdog against North Carolina, one of the most public teams on the board. The Jayhawks blew out the Tar Heels and then faced undefeated Memphis in the title game as an underdog again.
Kansas beat Memphis for the national title and taught us that a team can often be most dangerous when they are down and un-favored. The Jayhawks also gave a great lesson on the value of a previously humiliated champion/power.
