March Madness betting fans are well aware of Kentucky and Tennessee as the top teams in that division but Vanderbilt, South Carolina, and Florida are also March Madness odds contenders. Kentucky has so far proven to be the March Madness betting cream of the crop as they were 24-1 straight up and 12-11 against the spread.
Vanderbilt was the surprise team in the East as they entered serious consideration with the March Madness odds with a mark of 19-5 straight up and 12-10 with the college basketball gambling lines. Vandy scored a most impressive win over Tennessee 90-71 on February 9 to significantly enhance their March Madness betting credentials.
It was the Commodores’ second win over Tennessee this year. Vanderbilt was looking like a strong March Madness betting “over” team as they were 13-7 over the total so far in the season. Tennessee is still a highly regarded March Madness betting contender despite those losses to Vanderbilt.
But a 62-73 loss at Kentucky demonstrated that the Volunteers may not be a top shelf March Madness betting asset. Tennessee has lost a lot of their March Madness betting value as they were 1-6 against the spread in the heat of SEC play from January 23 through February 13.
Tennessee was trending as a March Madness betting “under” team with 12 unders in 17 games. Florida was a two-time national champion just two seasons ago and appears to be on their way back as they were 17-8 straight up and 11-9 against the spread. They were also trending under as they went over the total in just 6 out of 16 games.
South Carolina scored a signature win over Kentucky 68-62 on January 26 as 7-point home dogs to prove that they can compete with anyone on the “Dance Floor.” The Gamecocks had an overall record of 14-10 straight up and 9-12 against the spread.
They scored another key SEC win over Florida 77-71 as 2-point home favorites on February 10.
