March Madness Betting on a Nova at Sports Gambling

March Madness betting in 2008 saw a surprise run by the Villanova Wildcats. Nova was not expected to have much March Madness betting line success.

March Madness betting fans were not impressed with the Wildcats regular season mark of 22-13 straight up and 14-18 against the spread.  Many thought they had no business on the March Madness betting line.

Villanova ended up proving in 2008 that you cannot judge a March Madness betting book by its cover and that a closer look would have revealed that the Wildcats would make for a strong value against the March Madness betting line.

Villanova’s initial numbers were truly mediocre; at least by March Madness betting standards, but a closer look would have revealed significant potential.  First, the Wildcats had a lot of post season experience and were a regular on the March Madness betting board for a number of seasons.

This meant that a March Madness betting appearance would not make them as nervous as a team that had not appeared often or at all on the March Madness betting board.  Second, Villanova closed the season strong with six payoffs in their final eight regular season games against the spread, all of which were against Big East competition.

This was a good indicator to a sharp handicapper that the Wildcats would bring potential value against the March Madness betting line as they proved to be competitive against quality opponents.

During that late regular season run they had posted straight up wins against West Virginia and Connecticut, two teams that would be posted on the March Madness betting board.  12-seeded Villanova’s first March Madness betting appearance was against Clemson and the Wildcats quickly dispatched of the Tigers 75-69 as a quality 6-point dog.

Villanova next had unexpectedly become a March Madness betting favorite against 13-seeded Siena, who was coming off a huge upset win over USC.  Siena would have nothing left for Nova, who won 84-72 for their second consecutive March Madness betting payoff.

The Wildcats run would end to eventual national champ Kansas 57-72 as 12-point dogs but not before proving that an experienced team can become a danger in the “Big Dance”.
