March Madness betting line shockers included the dispatching of the 1-seed Kansas Jayhawks as just one of many NCAA March Madness bet surprises that have made for a thrilling handicap and challenge. Kansas was upset in the second round of the tournament in a 67-69 shocker against Northern Iowa as 11-point chalks with the March Madness betting line.
The Jayhawks failed to cover their opening round March Madness bet as well when they got by 16-seeded Lehigh 90-74 as 25-point favorites. Kansas was at or near the top of the national rankings all year and one of the prohibitive favorites with the March Madness betting line to make the Final Four.
Georgetown was a 3-seed and also suffered a shocking loss against Ohio University in an 83-97 decision as 13.5-point chalks. The Hoyas entered the Big Dance with solid momentum and as a team that had the potential to go far with the March Madness betting line.
It was just one of many disappointments for Big East teams. Villanova, a 2-seed out of the Big East, was stunned in a second round loss to St. Mary’s 68-75 as 4-point chalks. The Wildcats also failed to cover their opening round game in a weak 73-70 win over Robert Morris as 16.5-point chalks.
Villanova limped onto the Big Dance floor with 7 losses against the spread in their previous 10 games and many felt they did not deserve a 2-seed. Apparently the doubters were on to something. Pittsburgh of the Big East was a 3-seed and suffered a second round upset at the hands of Xavier 68-71 as 1.5-point chalks.
The Panthers were yet another highly regarded Big East team that went down the drain. Marquette and Notre Dame were first round losers from the Big East to add to the theory that the conference was totally overrated and the beneficiary of massive hype from the East Coast media and its blind bias towards that league.
