NBA odds bettors are beginning to doubt if the Lakers can repeat as NBA World Champions but veteran handicappers are always hesitant to write off this perennial NBA betting power.
The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night to officially start the stretch run of the NBA regular season. Tipoff time is set for 10:30 PM ET and Sports-Gambling will have side and total odds on this inter-conference matchup so be sure and open your account today for action.
Atlanta has been one of the better basketball sports betting surprises this season as they had a record of 34-21 straight up although just 25-30 against the spread. The Hawks have shown good value on the road however as they have paid out in 16 of their 29 away games while going under the total in 16 of those games as a visitor.
The Hawks are in contention for the top four of the Eastern Conference playoff race and the home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs that would come with it. Head coach Larry Drew faced a lot of skeptics when he took over last summer but he has the Hawks playing good defense as they ranked 9th in the NBA for points allowed.
The offense has been sluggish and ranked 22nd for points allowed. Josh Smith was the leading scorer for the Hawks with a modest 16.7 points per game while Al Horford was averaging close to 10 rebounds per game.
The Lakers had a betting basketball record of 38-19 and were just 25-31-1 against the spread. The Lakers were in bad form before the All Star Break as they lost 3 consecutive games both straight up and against the spread and ended the first half of the season with a humiliating loss at Cleveland to the lowly Cavaliers 104-99.
The loss at Cleveland demonstrated how disengaged the Lakers have been. LA ranked 8th in the NBA for scoring offense and 11th for points allowed on defense. As usual the Lakers have been a horrible value with the NBA odds at home with a mark of 10-17 against the spread with 17 of those games going under the number.
