Basketball betting handicappers considered Houston a playoff contender as long as they had Yao but without the big man they are looking like an also ran on the NBA betting board.

The Los Angeles Clippers will host the Houston Rockets Wednesday night with a start time of 10:30 PM ET.  Sports-Gambling will have side and over under odds on this matchup so be sure and open your account.

Houston had a record of 11-15 straight up and 14-12 with the NBA odds while going under the total in 15 of their first 26 games.  Yao fractured his left ankle and will miss the rest of the season.

This is the second year in a row that Yao will miss a season and the Rockets will have to re-evaluate their future plans as it appears as if the superstar from China may never fully recover and be able to handle the grind of a full NBA season.  Houston has till managed to put together one of the top offenses in the NBA as they ranked 6th in scoring with 105.3 points per game.

Guard Kevin Martin was the leading scorer on Houston with 23.2 points per game whole forward Luis Scola was 2nd with 20.3 points per game and a team best 8.8 rebounds per outing.  Houston paid out in just 6 of their first 14 road games this year.  The Rockets were in last place in the Southwest Division with little hope of climbing out of the basement due to the uncertainty of their roster.

The Clippers had a record of just 7-21 straight up but a break even 14-14 with the NBA lines.  LA was break even on over unders and had a mark of 6-9 against the spread at home with 10 of their 15 home games going under the total.  More embarrassing stories have come out of Los Angeles as owner Donald Sterling has been heckling his own players during games from his courtside seat.

There does seem to be a potential basketball betting upside to the Clippers, at least some day, as rookie Blake Griffin has been outstanding with 20.7 points per game along with 12.3 rebounds per outing.
