Basketball betting expectations are again rather low for the Clippers but there are signs that they could be one of the big online basketball betting surprises for 2010-11.
The Clippers won only 29 games last year, although it was a 10 game improvement from the season before. Los Angeles paid out in 35 games as they failed to bring much added value as a routine underdog. The Clippers opened at Sports-Gambling as a +12500 choice to win the NBA title.
The reason for a potentially improved team has to do with 2nd year pro Blake Griffin, who missed all of last season due to a knee cap injury. Griffin was the top pick of the 2009 NBA draft and was acclaimed as the savior and new face of the franchise.
He has been proclaimed healthy for this season and if he lives up to billing the Clippers will have many additional wins that they were unable to generate last season.
Griffin will be helped by point guard Baron Davis, one of the most respected in all of pro basketball betting. Davis averaged 15.3 points per game and of course led the Clippers in assists with 598. His assist total should increase with a healthy Griffin. Davis is an 8 year pro out of local UCLA.
Center Chris Kaman is another key basketball sports betting component for the Clippers as a 7 year pro out of Central Michigan. Kaman was the Clippers leading scorer last year with 16.5 points per game and a team best 704 rebounds.
Guard Eric Gordon, a 2nd year pro out of Indiana, finished 2nd on the Clippers in scoring last year with 16.9 points per game.
Another guard, Eric Bledsoe, is a rookie number one draft pick out of Kentucky.
The Clippers have long struggled since moving to Los Angeles from San Diego and bad losing seasons are the norm rather than the exception, but with the new influx of young talent coming in and coach Vinny Del Negro as a proven developer of young players the basketball betting prospects of this franchise are on the upswing and it may not be long before the Clippers are a playoff contender.
