MLB betting handicappers are beginning to have serious doubts about the Red Sox viability to actually contend for the American League pennant with the MLB odds.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will host the Boston Red Sox on Friday night with a starting time of 10:05 PM ET.  Sports Gambling will have side and total odds on this matchup of teams that were preseason favorites to make the American League playoffs.

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup are Jon Lester for the Red Sox and Dan Haren of the Angels.

Boston got off to a horrible start on the season as they lost 10 out of their first 15 games after being touted as the far and away best team in MLB baseball betting.

The Red Sox have had major pitching problems as they ranked 30th for staff earned run average which has wasted a decent start by the batting order that ranked 11th for run production on the season.  The Red Sox lost their first 6 away games of the season.

Lester had a respectable 3.20 earned run average and closer Jonathan Papelbon had a 1.8 earned run average with 2 saves.  Jacoby Ellsbury hit 4 home runs to start the season but was batting a poor .200.  Kevin Youkilis was off to a horrible start as he was batting .213 although he did walk 15 times.

The Angels were 10-6 with the MLB betting odds to begin the season and were 4-2 at home.  The Halos went over the total in just 4 out of their first 16 games.  Pitching has been the strength of the Angels so far as they were 3rd in the major leagues for staff earned run average.

Haren has gotten off to a phenomenal start with a 4-0 record and 1.16 earned run average.

Boston has beaten the Angels in 9 of their last 10 meetings heading into this weekend series.  The Angels won 11 of their last 20 home games against the Bosox but Boston did win their last 3 consecutive games at the “Big A.”  Just 4 of the last 15 matchups between these two teams in Anaheim have gone over the MLB betting total.
