MLB betting attention continues to now focus on the Padres as they have been the most profitable baseball betting online commodity of the 2010 campaign.
San Diego continued its lead of the National League West Division midway through August on the strength of a pitching staff that was the top ranked for earned run average in all of baseball.
Everyone keeps holding their breath waiting for the Padres to implode but it has yet to happen and a big reason as to why is that pitching staff, which has reminded handicappers as to why it is so important to always consider “well armed” teams with the MLB odds.
Since the all star break the Padres young starting rotation that includes Mat Latos, Clayton Richard, and Wade LeBlanc has not wilted with the dog days of August heat.
Latos has gone 2-1 in 4 starts with a 1.96 earned run average, Richard was 3-1 with a 5.93 ERA in 5 starts, and LeBlanc was 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in 5 starts since the break. Add in veterans Jon Garland and Kevin Correia and San Diego has what it takes to hang in the race through the stretch drive.
For the season overall Latos led the staff with a 2.32 ERA and a 12-5 record while Garland was 11-8 with a 3.41 ERA and Richard was 10-5 with a 3.80 ERA.
The bullpen has been just as effective as it has blown the fewest amount of games of any time in the big leagues this year. Heath Bell had 35 saves and a 1.78 ERA.
A five game winning streak put the Padres 22 games over the .500 mark which they have only accomplished twice before in 1984 and 1998 when they won National League pennants.
Adrian Gonzalez has been the offensive spark for San Diego with the baseball lines as he was hitting .300 with 22 home runs and 74 runs batted in, which were all best on the team.
Ryan Ludwick was another key performer as he was hitting .280 with 14 home runs and 50 runs batted in.
San Diego continues a long MLB betting road trip with stops this week at Chicago and Milwaukee before returning home August 24 against Arizona.
