MLB betting expectations are low for the Los Angeles Dodgers heading into spring training as ownership issues have lessened their online baseball betting appeal.
The Los Angeles Angels will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the spring training exhibition opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon with a starting time of 3:05 PM ET. The Angels had a record last year of a disappointing 80-82 as their lack of solid and consistent pitching finally caught up with them. What was even more of a problem with the baseball odds however was the Angels normally high octane offense slumping all the way down to 19th for run production, which must improve in 2011 if they are to get back into playoff contention.
The Dodgers also were a disappointment last year as they finished 80-82 after being projected as a favorite to win the National League pennant. The Dodgers will play without retired manager Joe Torre as Don Mattingly takes over as skipper.
The Dodgers also had run production problems last year as they ranked 21st for scoring while the pitching staff was up and down and ranked 12th.
The biggest betting baseball problem and concern with the Dodgers however is their ownership as the McCourts are still fighting through their divorce and seem to be going scorched earth on each other, which is causing significant damage to what was the marquee franchise in the major leagues.
The Angels believe that their pitching staff could be one of the big surprises in baseball this year. The rotation is led by right hander Jered Weaver with fellow right hander Dan Haren in the number two slot. The return of first baseman Kendry Morales from injury is welcome as his loss last year was a major factor in the Angels decline on offense.
The Dodgers rotation is led by Clayton Kershaw and he is considered to be a potential Cy Young Award contender. Mattingly will likely do a lot of experimenting with the lineup during the MLB betting exhibition season.
