On July 10th San Francisco’s AT&T Park will host the 2007 All Star Game. It will be the 78th MLB All Star game in history and another great sports gambling event. The first baseball All Star game was played on July 6, 1933 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. It is known as the "Midsummer Classic" and is a fan favorite.
Baseball all star game players were originally selected by the managers and the fans for the 1933 and 1934 games. From 1935 through 1946, managers selected the entire MLB All Star game roster for each league.
From 1947 to 1957, fans chose the team's starters and the manager chose the pitchers and the remaining players for the baseball all star game. From 1958 through 1969, managers, players, and coaches made the MLB All Star game selections.
In 1970, the vote again returned to the fans for the selection of the starters for the MLB All Star game and it has remained that way since. The 2007 All Star game will again be played with the winning team getting home field advantage in the World Series. That has proved important to teams and sports gambling fans in recent seasons.
No other league places any importance on a glorified exhibition game but Major League Baseball tried to increase interest by putting the home field edge on the line. Managers and players don’t like the idea of playing an exhibition game to determine home field edge in the World Series but that is what Major League Baseball has done.
The 2007 All Star game will present another chance for the National League to break their 10 game winless streak. The National League has lost 9 of the last 10 baseball all star games with one tie in 2002. Sports gambling players should be prepared for the American League to be favored once again.
