NFL Wild Card: Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants

NFL wild card play saw the Eagles continue their run but the NFL playoffs betting challenge for Philly will be much tougher at the Meadowlands.

NFL wild card handicappers will think twice before opposing the number one seeded Giants, who carry a lot of NFL playoffs betting credibility as defending super bowl champs.  Last week the Philadelphia Eagles got a nice NFL wild card win at Minnesota 26-14 as 3 point road favorites.

The Eagles enter the NFL divisional playoffs as an improbable team that just two weeks ago was as good as dead. But head coach Andy Reid rallied his team into the NFL wild card playoffs and must be given credit for not allowing his team to quit.  The Eagles now carry something of a “destiny” feel to their NFL wild card pursuits.

Philadelphia carries many NFL wild card assets into this game against the Giants.  The Eagles ranked 9th overall on offense and 3rd overall on defense.  Success in NFL playoffs betting is highly dependent on strong defense as Philadelphia proved last week at Minnesota.

Asante Samuel’s 44 yard TD interception return was one of the key plays in the Eagles NFL wild card win over the Vikings.  Quarterback Donovan McNabb had a good NFL playoffs betting performance against the Vikings as he went 23/34 for 300 yards and a TD.

Philadelphia’s main NFL wild card concern would be their rushing attack, which was ranked 22nd in the league and was ineffective against the Vikings.  The New York Giants will have home field advantage throughout the NFL divisional playoffs based on their outstanding straight up record of 12-4.

The Giants impressed NFL wild card bettors with their 12-4 mark against the spread to rank as one of the most reliable teams on the board.  There is some NFL wild card betting concern about how the Giants finished the season, however, as they went 1-3 straight up and 2-2 against the spread.

NFL wild card handicappers will recall that the Giants problems began on December 7 in a 14-20 home loss to the Eagles as 6.5-point chalks!  The Eagles have covered 4 of their last 6 road games against Big Blue.  These two teams have gone under the total in 10 of their last 12 head to head meetings at the Meadowlands!
